Depending on funds, how much time you try the Do It Yourself platform will vary.  Typically running a small business means you are wearing all the hats and doing everything.  I work with small businesses on their marketing weekly but most of them started doing their own marketing until they had funds to outsource it to an expert.

Here a few tips:

Know your perfect client

Before you can begin any kind of marketing, you need to know your perfect client.

I believe every business has 3 ideal clients.  For example, a Real estate company works with

  1. First-time homeowners
  2. Those downsizing
  3. Commercial.   It is all under the same umbrella but each one of those categories of clients requires different images and different content.

Digital

Now that you know your perfect client where are they spending time online?  Is it Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or Instagram?  Once you know that, you can start to build your audience.  Make sure you post things your audience wants to read.  It is not about you; it is about them.   Remember it is called SOCIAL media for a reason, engage with your audience.

Video

No one gets up in the morning and says they are excited about making videos, but it is so worth it to your marketing.  Just think most of your competitors are not doing this so you should.

Now there are three types of video.  One is basically raw footage and live.  Facebook’s algorithm gives more preference to live video because you are engaging in real-time with your audience.  LinkedIn now allows you to go live as well.  Second is a video uploaded to your social platform and that is 2nd best and gets love from Facebook because you stay on their platform.  Third is uploading your videos to sites like YouTube.  The videos are still ranking higher than images and content but anytime it has a link it will be seen less than the other two options.  Again, because FB doesn’t want you to leave their platform.

Stats According to Optinmonster:

  • 89% of video marketers say video gives them a good ROI.
  • 83% of video marketers say video helps them with lead generation.
  • 87% of video marketers say video has increased traffic to their website.
  • 80% of video marketers say video has directly helped increase sales.
  • 95% of video marketers plan to increase or maintain video spend in 2020.

Email list

You may have to create a free offer to get them to give you permission to use their email address, but it is so worth it.   When using any of the Social platforms like FB, LinkedIn, etc they own your information and shut you down at any time.  If they go away tomorrow or shut down your account, you have lost everything you have worked for.  Email allows you to keep all your proprietary information under your control.

Keep in mind what used to be extensive information in an email has changed to keeping it simple, so you give them bite-size pieces of information.  This makes it easier for them to digest.  How often should you send out emails? It depends but it must give value or there is no need to send it out.

Try it out, watch your business grow with these marketing tips.
