Your worth and value starts with knowing who and Whose you are.

“But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.”

1 Peter 2:9-10 The Message

“This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?” God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children. And we know we are going to get what’s coming to us—an unbelievable inheritance! We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with him, then we’re certainly going to go through the good times with him!”

Romans 8:15-17 The Message

“What’s the price of a pet canary? Some loose change, right? And God cares what happens to it even more than you do. He pays even greater attention to you, down to the last detail—even numbering the hairs on your head! So don’t be intimidated by all this bully talk. You’re worth more than a million canaries.”

Matthew 10:31 The Message

“You did not choose me, but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. “

John 15:16 NRSV

Audacious Faith QuoteWhat does the MasterCard promotion say? Priceless. That’s what you are!

God also chose you. Remember when you were in school, especially gym class? If there was going to be a game forming with two teams, you had to be chosen. If you weren’t talented in sports, others would have been picked before you. It’s awful to wait and to not be chosen right away. You’re seen as not being valuable. But God has chosen you to do great things and to add value into the world.

Any rejection can leave a deep wound that will attack your self-worth. In this consumer-driven society where we are bombarded by messages of perfection: perfect skin, perfect hair, perfect relationships, a perfect body, it is easy to feel less than.

Each of us have been given unique, valuable gifts and talents to share with the world. There is only one YOU! Until you believe in your own worth, you won’t be able to charge what you are worth in the marketplace. The more value you bring to the world, the more valuable you will become.

If you find yourself swimming in self-doubt, doubting your abilities, doubting your value, remember who and Whose you are, stop asking questions or making statements like: who am I to do this? I can’t charge that! What credentials do I have?

Instead, grab your journal and ask yourself these questions:

  • What problems and pain points do I help people solve?
  • What unique gifts and talents has God equipped me with to do the work he has called me to do?
  • Am I talking to the right people who see the value I bring?

Tune out the outside voices that tell you what to be, do and have. Tune into the voice of God through these scriptures and in your time with God to name and claim your value.
